One of my favorite blogs that I follow. Perfect mix of horror and art.

Not necessarily a horror movie, but it’s definitely a clever, high energy thriller. This is one of the single location movies I really enjoy, so much I’ve watched it twice. Oh, and one of the characters is french.

This movie is epic. It’s about hunting a werewolf, the lighting throughout the whole thing is stunning, it’s action packed, the music is brilliant, and it’s French. I like the French.

There’s a midnight showing of Eraserhead at the Byrd here in Richmond. I’m excited!

The vampires of the 80’s were the best vampires. Near Dark is my favorite from the era, mostly because of the gritty, dusty atmosphere that I love. It’s a pretty well done love story as well, which is saying something considering the reputation of love stories in the genre.

This is one of the strangest movies I’ve ever seen, as well as one of the hardest to watch. It took me three sittings just to get all the way through and it’s only about an hour and a half long. In the end, I did quite enjoy the experience of watching this movie, especially when every scene begged the question Why?!

So, not exactly a horror movie, but I think horror fans could appreciate it. It’s a very simple story, yet the atmosphere to the whole film is actually rather creepy, partly because of the animation style. What’s even better is the movie is free on youtube and… it’s French. I’m a sucker for French films.

The French are my favorite horror film-makers, and this is definitely my favorite of all that I’ve seen. It’s intelligent, gory, and I was permanently cringing through the whole thing.

Art history, yaaaahhhh!
He’s pretty much my favorite romantic artist, mostly because his paintings are just plain creepy.

This one has been on my list of movies I need to watch for a looooong time. Let’s say it didn’t disappoint. How could you not enjoy a Korean revenge movie with plenty of gore and a mind blowing plot?

I’m a sucker for the found footage movies, this is the best one I’ve ever seen though, and I had my doubts when I first heard about it. What seems like a ridiculous premise makes for an amazing movie.

This man is a genius and he has the best sense of humor! Please check him out, he always makes my day better.
Just got finished watching this movie on Netflix. I suggest you immediately do the same, the ending really makes it all even better.

I love this woman! She does some truly beautiful paintings and I could spend all day staring at them. What she paints is always rather fantastical and because the backgrounds are always so diluted and minimal, the subject of her pieces can’t really be placed in any time or place, it’s sort of mesmerizing. Even her gourds look unreal!

It’s another movie I found on youtube! This one, it’s not so good. The premise is that a random group of people wake up to find themselves in separate cells, wearing only their underwear and without any memories of what happened or who they are. They soon find that they are also being stalked by a supernatural shadow creature. Um, that’s all I can say about it really, it’s not great, it’s not bad, it’s just something you could watch to waste some time.

Here is some more animation, because I love it and do spend an excessive amount of time on YouTube. This isn’t a particular artist, but instead comes from “L’Ecole Supérieure des Métiers Artistiques”, a very amazing french art school. The screenshot below is from the very beautiful “Oracle” (click on it to get to the video). It’s all in french, without subtitles, but I think you’ll understand the story with being able to understand what is being said.

What am I supposed to say? It’s a Saw movie, you know how those go. There were traps, blood, bad acting… It’ll give you a good laugh if you look past how serious it tries to take itself or how convoluted the story has gotten.
It was fun: 5/10
Enjoy some pictures!

If you’ve ever been browsing around the YouTubes, then you’ve probably happened upon Mr. Hertzfeldt’s work. And if not, then you’re missing out. This man is a genius with animation and story telling, and he has a great/disturbing sense of humor. Click on the screenshot below to watch one of his animations (and then go watch some more!)

Don’s website: bitterfilms
Another crazy-family movie! This one’s a bit different though. It’s shot “home video style” and presented as “police evidence”, so you know we’re in for something poorly executed or creepy as hell. This is the latter. Basically, it documents the unraveling of your average suburban family with a mother, father, son, and daughter (who has her own revealing side plot). It’s not quite as disturbing as Parents, that I reviewed earlier, or Home Movie, probably the most disturbing of the three, but it still accomplishes what it sets out to do. Plus, it’s British.
The truth hurts a bit too much sometimes: 7.5/10

I also seem to remember that I promised you art, so here it is!
The only reason I found out about this guy is because I was looking up a picture of a dalek to show my friend, and this bastard showed up! It was happy accident in all actuality.
Let me say that this man loves clean lines and solid colors, you might almost think that everything he does is digital, but he does most of his work in paint. If anything you’ll enjoy his Space Monkey (though I swear to god, it looks like a mouse); it’s quite adorable for a malformed nightmare creature. Oh, and did I mention the colors? The colors, my eyes!
I also think it’s pretty cool that he graduated from VCU, it’s where I’m at the moment anyways…

I was looking for free movies on Youtube and found this little gem. Set in the 1950’s (at first, I could swear it was made in the 50’s, it was great), it tells that tale of a boy whose parents have a very interesting taste in meat, and you can probably guess what that is. Everywhere you look the film up, it’s labeled as a comedy, but I don’t understand that at all; I thought it was one of the more disturbing things that I’ve ever watched. I suppose there were two amusing parts, though that was only thanks to the music, what was happening on screen wasn’t all that nice, as you would imagine.
(I’ll be rating these movies on a scale of 1-10 until I come up with something cleverer.)
This one is probably one of favorite movies now: 9/10

First thing’s first, introductions.
Hi! I’m Kira, who’re you?
Okay, that’s good now.
So, I suppose you’re wondering what my purpose in your life is, aren’t you? I must tell you that I am solely here to entertain you and… well, actually, it’s alright if I don’t, though it’s a plus if I do! And how might I go about doing that? That, my friend, is simple; by spewing my most random thoughts about art and horror movies. That sounds like fun, doesn’t it?
And so, let us begin!
